Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt) Blair C. “Pops”
Biddle was born in Philadelphia, PA, on 9 October 1943; graduated from
Central Bucks Joint High School in 1961, and joined the USAF that same
year. He served for
eighteen years as an Inflight Refueling Superintendent (Boom Operator),
and made four trips to South East Asia during the Viet Nam War, flying
over 500 combat missions and earning three Air Medals.
In 1988, SMSgt Biddle was on Temporary Duty with the
380th Bombardment Wing on Exercise “Mighty Warrior” to
Phelps-Collins ANGB, MI. The
380th was the sponsor for the MI Wg Encampment that year.
Prior to leaving Alpena, SMSgt Biddle made a promise to rejoin
CAP when he returned to Plattsburgh, New York; a promise he kept the
very next month. He served
a total of 28 years on active duty, earning the USAF Meritorious Service
Medal.
In 1985, SMSgt Biddle was ordained as a Deacon in the
Episcopal Diocese of Albany, New York, and serves as the Deacon
Assistant at St. Paul’s church, Keeseville, NY.
He was certified as a Moral Leadership Officer in the Civil Air
Patrol and teaches Moral Leadership at two units in New Hampshire and
one in New York, as well as teaching at encampments.
Since
joining CAP in 1988, Lt Col Biddle, CAP, has served as Group Commander,
but much prefers being a Tactical Officer (TAC) at encampments (nearly
30 to date) as well as being the on-site clergy on duty at encampments. His weekly duties in CAP include being the Deputy Commander
for Cadets and Administrative Officer for the Malone Squadron, Malone,
New York. He is usually the
first to tell you that there is really only one reason for CAP, and that
is the Cadet Program. Email
