CRITICAL INCIDENT STRESS MANAGEMENT:

Monday, March 5, 2007

CISM at National Boards

The Group Crisis Intervention course has traditionally been held immediately prior to the summer National Boards each year, and it is our wish to continue to do so as well as possibly expand course offerings. If you would like to see the Group course (required for CAP CISM Team participation) or the Individual Crisis Intervention and Peer Support course offered, please send a note of interest to cism@cap.gov stating which course you would like to take. If there is enough interest this year, we may offer both courses (minimum 25 maximum 50 per class). If offering both courses is successful, we will consider adding a third, Advanced Group Crisis Intervention in the future. We are trying to gauge interest; this email does not commit you to taking the course and no funds are required at this time.

These courses are detailed through the ICISF website at http://icisf.org/Training/classes/index.asp (cost is about $300/person per course in the private sector); CAP has been offering them for about $35/person through dedicated courses. CEU's are up to the individual governing board in each state, each course is two days in length and 14 contact hours for Group, 13 contact hours for Peer. Both courses must be fully attended to obtain certificates of completion, finishing the Group course qualifies individuals to apply to their wing/region CAP CISM team. All CAP dedicated CISM courses arranged through NHQ will be taught by CAP endorsed ICISF trained and qualified instructors, each course is registered with ICISF (International Critical Incident Stress Foundation www.icisf.org).
