Great Lakes Region Cadet Competition

MIWG Drill Team

MIWG Color Guard Team

Congratulations to the Michigan Drill Team and the Michigan Color Guard Team for winning at the Great Lakes Region Cadet Competition. The teams will represent the Great Lakes Region at the National Cadet Competition in June. They each will compete against seven other Region winners for the honor of being National Champions.

This year's event was held at Dayton, OH, in several venues, including the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. The weather was unfortunately uncooperative and posed its challenges. Nethertheless, the teams and staff persevered and the Competition was completed on time.
Three drill team and five color guard teams competed in several events, including Inspection, Mile Run, Written Exam, Panel Quiz, Standard Drill, Mile Run, plus Outdoor Post and Indoor Presentation for the Color Guards and Innovative Drill and Volleyball for the Drill Teams.

C/1st Lt Tyler Millard of the Boulle Norman Memorial Cadet Squadron is the MIWG Drill Team Commander. He competed last year at the Region Competition, but this was his first year as team commander. The thing he liked most about the competition was the professional level and spirit of the cadets, he remarked. C/MSgt Jonathan Pupillo of the Oakland Composite Squadron commanded the MIWG Color Guard. "We practiced five times a week for two- to three- hours", said Cadet Pupillo. All that practiced worked. Cadet Pupillo won the Male Fleet Foot Award.
