MEET YOUR CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT:

CCMSgt Clyde A. Bowman

CMSgt. Clyde A. Bowman is the first Command Chief for the Ohio Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. He advises the commander on issues regarding the welfare, readiness, and morale of personnel and professional development of the enlisted corps.

Chief Bowman was born in Chicago, Illinois where he graduated from Lane High School before attending the University of Illinois. He joined the CAP in 1961 and left the program the next year to play hockey and football. While attending the Uof I Chief Bowman completed Phase I of the Marine Corps Platoon Leader Class at Quantico, Virginia. Chief Bowman enlisted in the Navy in 1968 and became a member of the Naval Security Group as a linguist, analyst, operator and report writer serving in the Philippines, and Southeast Asia with two civilian agencies. Chief Bowman then served in Ft. Meade, Spain, the Mediterranean, Eastern and Northern Africa and the Indian Ocean. After leaving the NSG he served with a civilian agency in Tehran, Iran with the IIAF until the revolution. Chief Bowman then joined the Ohio National Guard while finishing BA and MA degrees at Ohio State University. With the National Guard he served as the Individual Training Evaluation Program coordinator for the state, state intelligence NCO, and operations and intelligence NCO for the 54th RAOC (V CORPS). Chief Bowman left the National Guard to accept the position of Sergeant Major with the 4th US Army FEMA program as liaison to Ohio. He retired from this position to teach and coach soccer and fast pitch softball. Chief Bowman re-entered service with the Ohio Military Reserve as Corps G-2 SGM functioning as the Corps Intelligence Operations Officer. Chief Bowman left the OHMR to assume the position of CCM, Ohio Wing, CAP.
