GLR HQ DP to deploy in September There's good news and bad news. The good news is that GLR Director of Personnel, Lt. Col. Marcia Cunningham, has won an all-expense paid trip. The bad news is that she is being deployed with the US Navy to Djibouti, Africa for the next 18 months. She reports for duty on October 6, 2006 and is tentatively scheduled to complete her tour in April, 2008. After preparation and training, her actual time in-country will be about 12 months. Lt. Col. Cunningham has served in the Naval Reserves for the past 18 years and is a Senior Chief Petty Officer. As a Naval Storekeeper, she specializes in the area of Supply. The US Navy assumed command of Camp Lemonier, which is located in the capital city of Djibouti, in July, 2006. The camp serves as the command center for the Combined Joint Task Force -- Horn of Africa. All branches of the service are stationed at Camp Lemonier with a total of 1,500 US and Coalition forces on Djibouti is situated between Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea and the Gulf of Aden. All of these areas are designated as having known terrorist links by the US State Department. Lt. Col. Cunningham will be missed and everyone in the region will anxiously await her return. 2007 GLR Staff College GLR Staff College Director, Lt. Col. Dick Neuwirth is pleased to announce that, “Region Staff College dates for 1007 are 15-21 July at Grissom ARB, IN. We have already worked on billeting, dining-out, and picnic locations for next year. The Marines have said they would be glad to have us back and we can use their building.” 2006 Ohio Wing Conference Mark your calendars for October 14-15, 2006 for the Ohio Wing Conference and Awards Banquet. This year’s event takes place at the Best Western Columbus North, Columbus, OH. According to conference project officer, Captain Steve Jones, “The 2006 Ohio Wing Awards Banquet will also be held on 14 OCT 06 in conjunction with the conference. The social hour will begin at 1800 hrs with the dinner and awards following at 1900.” Registration and program information is available on the Ohio Wing Website. New Wing Commanders Selected GLR Commander, Colonel William W. Webb has announced two command changes in the Great Lakes Region. On March 25, 2006 in a change of command ceremony, Indiana Wing Commander Colonel Charles Greenwood hands over command to Colonel John F. Bryan. Wisconsin Wing will change command from Colonel Clair Jowett to Colonel Donald J. Haffner on April 29, 2006. Colonel Webb stated in a letter, “A wing commander selection advisory board was appointed and interviewed applicants for the position. Having reviewed the recommendations of the selection advisory board, and after concurrence with the National Commander pursuant to CAPR 35-9, I am pleased to announce (the above listed appointments).” | |||||||||||
