CIVIL AIR PATROL GREAT LAKES REGION UNITED STATES AIR FORCE AUXILIARY
23 JUNE 1999
MEMORANDUM FOR ALL GREAT LAKES REGION MEMBERS
FROM: CAP-GLR/CC 629 Fleddermouse Novi, MI 48374
SUBJECT: Region Patch Adopted
1. Utilizing the work of two graphic artists, Mr. Mike Mikos and Ms. Peggy Greenlee, the historical input of Cpt. Andy (Ace) Browning, CAP, and numerous CAP members, GLR has adopted a patch. We extend our appreciation for the creative work and input of these individuals.
2. The patch utilizes the shield shape with the words "Great Lakes Region" across the bottom scroll. In the center of the patch is a silver "V" into which is set six blue stars. From July 1942 through WW2, a vanguard chevron was worn on the sleeve of CAP members. Of particular historical significance to GLR is the fact that during the WW2 coastal patrol missions, no region suffered more loss of lives in supporting the coastal patrol missions than did GLR. The "V" is our historical reminder of GLR's commitment to duty. The six blue stars inset in the "V" represent the six wings of GLR that made those sacrifices and which have continued to do so ever since. Above the "V" is a light blue background with five silver waves that represent the five great lakes. Below the "V" is a darker blue background inset with a red CAP prop in a silver triangle background on the right to symbolize CAP's current missions and with a red aircraft symbol inset on the left to symbolize the primary tool we use to perform our missions.
3. A color graphic of the patch may be seen above.
4. The GLR patch is authorized for use, per CAPM 39-1 § B. 7-6.c.(b) and (f), as a substitution for the CAP seal on the right breast of flight suits worn by GLR members; if used on the flight suit, it may also be used on the flight jacket. The patch may also be worn on the right sleeve of the jump suit per CAPM 39-1 § 6-2.a.(2).
